WIA Summer Youth

Work Skills Corporation (WSC) provides services in the summer for Washtenaw County at-risk youth in partnership with Michigan Works! and Michigan State AFL-CIO Human Resources Development, Inc (HRDI). Services are centered on participating in a real-life work experience, hands-on computer skills training and the knowledge of how to effectively obtain employment. A principal focus of the program is to teach the youth job seeking skills in order to obtain a job and become contributing members of our community’s workforce. To this end, youth develop a resume and are instructed on interview techniques and practice, application completion, self-presentation, communication and how to organize and track a job search. For the majority of the participants, it is their first work experience. For these youth, the program is further rewarding because they are paid for their efforts.
